4 former Memphis police officers who were charged in the death of Tyre Nichols had prior warnings and suspensions.

Tennessee's MEMPHIS – Only one of the five former Memphis Police officers charged with contributing to Tyre Nichols' death avoided internal discipline during his employment with the force, while the other four received suspensions or written reprimands.

According to personnel records obtained by The Commercial Appeal, a member of the USA TODAY Network, through a public records request, four officers received reprimands or suspensions for failing to report instances of physical violence, failing to report alleged domestic violence, or failing to report damages to their squad cruisers.

Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills, Jr., Justin Smith, and Emmitt Martin III were the four former officers who were charged and received a warning or a suspension. The documents reviewed by The Commercial Appeal did not show any reprimands or suspensions for Tadarrius Bean, who was also fired and charged.
