Federal immigration agents deployed in Minneapolis could be withdrawn if city and state officials agree to cooperate with enforcement efforts, according to the U.S. border enforcement chief.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between federal authorities and local leadership over immigration policies and law enforcement priorities. The border tsar emphasized that the presence of federal agents is intended to support enforcement objectives and is not permanent, suggesting a pullback could occur if cooperation improves.
Local officials have previously expressed concerns about federal involvement, citing community trust and public safety issues. However, federal authorities argue that collaboration is essential to effectively manage border-related and immigration challenges.
