Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi has sparked discussion after his recent comments while defending his film Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Addressing criticism that labeled the movie as “propaganda,” Bedi emphasized that cinema should not be viewed through a political lens.
During an interview, he stated that audiences have the right to like or dislike a film, but categorising movies as “pro” or “anti” establishment is unfair. He added that the true verdict lies with viewers, who are responding positively to Dhurandhar 2.
In what many interpreted as an indirect dig, Bedi referred to recent films based on political figures, suggesting they failed to sustain audience interest for long. His remarks were widely seen as a subtle reference to Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut.
Bedi, however, maintained that his focus remains on storytelling and entertainment rather than politics. He credited the strong writing and large-scale production of Dhurandhar 2 for its success, highlighting the gap between online criticism and audience reception
