A recently seized tanker has revealed a sophisticated international operation stretching from Iran to China and Venezuela, exposing how vessels involved in sanctioned oil trades hide their true locations. According to investigators, the ship used multiple tactics to disguise its movements, including turning off tracking signals, spoofing GPS data, and conducting ship-to-ship transfers in the open sea.
The vessel reportedly loaded Iranian crude under a false identity, later sailing under different flags and names to avoid detection. Maritime intelligence teams say the tanker frequently disappeared from radar for days at a time, only to reappear thousands of miles away with altered documentation. These tactics allowed it to slip into Asian and South American ports while bypassing international monitoring systems.
