A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Japan on Monday, prompting authorities to immediately issue a tsunami warning for several coastal regions. The quake, which struck at a considerable depth, caused intense tremors that were felt across nearby cities and towns, sending residents rushing outdoors for safety.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the epicenter was located off the country’s northern coast, an area known for frequent seismic activity. Following the quake, officials warned that small to moderate tsunami waves could reach coastal communities and urged people living near the shoreline to evacuate to higher ground or safe buildings.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to assess potential damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power lines. While no major casualties were immediately confirmed, local authorities say they are still collecting information from remote areas that may have experienced stronger shaking.
