Members of Parliament have rejected a proposal to impose a blanket ban on social media use for children under the age of 16. Instead, lawmakers supported a more flexible approach that would allow regulators to introduce targeted measures aimed at protecting young users online.
Supporters of the decision argue that rather than enforcing a strict ban, stronger oversight and adaptable rules could help platforms better address risks such as harmful content, online bullying, and data privacy concerns. The approach is intended to give authorities the ability to respond quickly to emerging digital challenges while still allowing young people to access online spaces in a safer and more controlled environment.
