Rukmini Vasanth on Her Antagonist Role in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ and Her Admiration for Mani Ratnam

Rukmini Vasanth, who plays the antagonist in Kantara: Chapter 1, revealed that the role pushed her into unexplored emotional territory. According to her, portraying a morally complex character required deep preparation, especially to match the film’s raw, rooted tone. She described the experience as both challenging and liberating, noting that the script allowed her to break away from conventional female roles often seen in mainstream cinema.

In the interview, Rukmini also spoke about her long-standing admiration for legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam. She said his films shaped her understanding of storytelling, particularly his ability to weave powerful emotions with striking visuals. Rukmini added that Mani Ratnam’s women characters—strong, layered, and authentic—have been some of her biggest inspirations.

The actor believes Kantara: Chapter 1 will surprise audiences, not only with its intense narrative but also with the depth of each character. She hopes her performance as the antagonist adds meaningful impact to the world the filmmakers have created.
