Kurdish forces in northern Syria have reaffirmed their determination to resist government advances, declaring they are prepared to fight “until the last breath” despite growing military and political pressure from Damascus.
The defiant stance comes as Syrian government forces intensify efforts to reassert control over Kurdish-held territories, raising fears of renewed conflict in an already fragile region. Kurdish leaders argue that their struggle is not only about territory but also about protecting their autonomy, identity, and security after years of self-administration during the civil war.
Local commanders have accused the Syrian government of attempting to dismantle hard-won self-rule through force rather than dialogue. “We are defending our people and our future,” a Kurdish official said, stressing that surrender is not an option under the current circumstances.
The standoff risks further destabilizing northern Syria, where multiple armed actors, shifting alliances, and foreign interests complicate any path toward a peaceful resolution. Analysts warn that without meaningful negotiations, the confrontation could escalate into prolonged violence, worsening humanitarian conditions for civilians caught in between.
