“Commandant Tom” was an installation of Bison television for over 30 years
Bison, N.Y. (WKBW) — It's with overwhelming sadness that the 7 News family reports the death of the unbelievable Tom Jolls.
Mr. Jolls, who many will affectionately recall as Authority Tom, died calmly Wednesday evening, encompassed by family at Bison Hospice in Cheektowaga. Tom was 89 years of age.
A local of Lockport, Tom was a cherished individual from the 7 News Group who graced our TV evaluates for over 30 years, joining WKBW in 1965.
Tom, alongside veteran reporter Irv Weinstein and sports anchor Rick Azar, were an evening time installation on 7 Observer News, with Mr. Jolls expressing that natural expression, “It's 11 o'clock, do you have any idea where your kids are?” He resigned from WKBW in 1999.
Tom was accepted into the Bison Broadcasting Corridor of Distinction in 1998. He was accepted into the New York State Telecasters Affiliation Lobby of Popularity in 2019.
