USA Ends 46-Year Wait to Claim Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Gold

In a tightly contested clash at the Milan-Cortina Games, the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation. It was in the extra period that American star Jack Hughes scored the decisive goal just 1:41 into overtime, sending the U.S. into jubilant celebration and snapping a 46-year gold medal drought in the sport.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck played a pivotal role throughout, making numerous key saves to keep the U.S. in the game. Earlier, Matt Boldy had given the Americans an early lead before Canada’s Cale Makar equalized in the second period.

The victory not only marked only the third Olympic gold in U.S. men’s hockey history but also came exactly 46 years after the famed “Miracle on Ice” triumph in 1980. Fans and teammates celebrated the frozen moment of triumph, cementing this win as one of the most memorable in Olympic hockey history.
